Knoesis is
a software development organization based in Annapolis, MD.
Founded,
owned and operated by scholars and researchers, Knoesis is dedicated
to developing software tools to improve research and information
sharing.
We will never
use proprietary standards or technology to limit how widely a researcher
can disseminate information. To that end, we support the Open Database
Connectivity Standards, to ensure that your research will remain accessible
to the widest variety of past and future database systems.
Knoesis will
freely publish the Knoesis Index Card (KIC) data model, and independent
software vendors are encouraged to develop both add-ins and independent
applications using our index cards. A tool-bar interface making it possible
to add cards to your KIC cardfile from inside popular word processors
and web browsers is one example of the endless possibilities for further
development. We believe that leveraging the power and intelligence of
the world-wide development community is the best way to make our products
the most popular, useful and versatile research aids on the market.
We have
not yet taken the open source plunge (although feel free to tell us
why we should), but our current policy is to openly license the right
to use and distribute all the components which make up the Knoesis Index
Card line. If you are a developer, please for more information and the necessary forms.
